Who’s Wearing Patty Tobin
What a night! We are so grateful to every one that attended our Humane Society Fundraiser Trunk Show on August 9th. The evening was a resounding success and a whole lot of fun! We were joined by many longtime friends and customers and were so happy to make the acquaintance of so many new faces. Guests gathered in support of Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, a fabulous organization that works tirelessly to safeguard homeless and abused animals from around the Capital Region.
We did our best to make the evening as enjoyable as possible. Guests sipped cocktails and enjoyed great company, great conversation, deeelicious food, and, of course, an exceptional jewelry showcase made possible by designer and philanthropist, Patty Tobin.
For more than 20 years, Patty has worked upstate and downstate with countless charities and nonprofits to benefit any number of causes from Alzheimer’s to kidney disease, elderly care to enumerable children’s charities. Which is why we were both so excited to finally do an event that would benefit animals in our area. (We Tobins breed fierce animal lovers…)
To ensure we raise as much as possible for the cause, Patty devoted herself these last few months to designing a stunning new collection of pieces to showcase exclusively at the event. Included in these, was a number of Patty Tobin Couture pieces, mainly statement necklaces like the Sapphires shown above (left) and the Aquamarines also shown above (right and center). These, among others, feature a new series of commissioned artisan pendants that Patty has recently introduced to her line. While these styles rest on the high-end of her line, Patty showcased a beautiful assortment of timeless necklace, bracelet and earring styles that offered guests a wide range of price points.
The jewelry definitely gave the party a bit of swing, adding some fun and playfulness to the gathering as women took turns trying on different pieces and vying for a spot in front of the only mirror in the room to get a glimpse. For a little added excitement (and a little extra fundraising), Patty donated the stunning 23-carat Pink Topaz sterling silver Acanthus Cocktail Ring for a raffle prize (shown right). And our gracious host, Annmarie Ellis, donated a Patty Tobin Bali Sterling Silver necklace featuring a beautiful Lemon Topaz pendant as a second surprise raffle prize.
Thank you to everyone who worked with us to make this event possible and to every person who took time out of their busy schedule to attend. We’d like to send out a special thank you to Robin Anderson (Humane Society, Board of Directors) for her participation and effort organizing this event. We hope you will remember the name Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and go back and read our earlier blog that tells you a little bit more about who they are and the great work they do (click here to read that story).
Before we sign off, we have to give a very special Thank You to Annmarie Ellis for opening her home to us and really making this event possible. Not only did Annie graciously donate her home as our venue for the evening, but she worked tirelessly alongside Patty, donating her time, energy and capital to make sure the evening was a success. We are very grateful to you for everything, thank you.
And last, but certainly not least: The Rock.
Rocky Ellis, the night just wouldn’t have been the same without you, boy.
You are the best security guard, jewelry model, and co-host anyone could ever ask for!
Thank you for sharing your home and your humans with us for the evening.
Patty Tobin readers, I’d like to introduce you to two very special ladies:
Meet Kathy & Kienan Lacey
This beautiful — and real life — mother and daughter duo will appear later this month for Patty Tobin in the 2015 New York Edition of Sophisticated Weddings. The release of the magazine’s 2015 bridal book will kickoff our first (“official”) Patty Tobin Mother of the Bride wedding jewelry campaign!
This time last year, the 2014 publication of Sophisticated Weddings New York Edition marked the launch of our first formal Patty Tobin Bridal Collection. We ran our first national full-page advertisement for Patty Tobin Bridal and saw our jewelry styled with several incredible wedding gowns for the magazine’s 2014 feature story. It was especially exciting to see Patty Tobin alongside impressive designer names like Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Galia Lahav, and Dennis Basso (exclusive for Kleinfeld).
In the upcoming issue, you can expect to see Kathy and Kienan modeling the Patty Tobin pearl necklaces worn at Kienan’s 2014 wedding in New York City. A full-scale black tie event held at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens last fall, both mother and daughter looked flawless in their unique South Sea and Freshwater Pearl creations.
For her wedding day, the bride wanted to be “dripping in pearls” while still striking a balance with her dress so as not to be too over the top. As we do with many of our brides, Patty decided to design two custom pieces for Kienan in order to achieve the look she wanted. Using a hand-picked combination of creamy-white baroque Freshwater Pearls separated by small sections of 18K Vermeil chain, Patty created an elegant “floating” look for the bride’s necklace. Using two 40″ chains instead of one long, Kienan was able to style and adjust her necklaces to fall exactly where she wanted them. By spacing out the pearls with delicate vermeil chain, Patty created a look that was at once subtle and a statement. The vermeil sections in between the pearls gave the bride an elegant hint of glistening gold as she moved throughout the day while not competing with or overwhelming the beauty of the pearls’ natural luster.
For mother of the bride, Kathy, a beautiful strand of South Sea Pearls from our Couture Collection was met with love at first sight. No custom design was necessary. Before she even tried on the necklace, the moment she walked in, she saw it, pointed to it and said, “That one!”
The necklace belongs to our Patty Tobin Couture Collection, which features a stunning assortment of large baroque South Sea Pearls; all hand-knotted on silk and finished with a 14K gold and diamond clasp. It was the perfect balance of sophistication, style and elegance to go with the black and white strapless designer ballgown she would wear for the occasion.
We are so grateful to both Kathy and Kienan, not only for their patronage and friendship, but for their continued support and overwhelming willingness to participate in this important advertising campaign we are undertaking in 2015! Ladies, we thank you both sincerely and are so happy we could be part of your magical day.
Happy customers like Ro (pictured below) and her husband Bob are what make our Holiday Season so delightful at Patty Tobin. We met this lovely couple during one of our Bloomingdale’s Trunk Shows in Huntington, Long Island this past December. Ro instantly fell in love with our Abalone Torsade and her husband Bob was right behind her to say, “Let’s get it for you!”
As with many of our customers, Ro needed the length of the necklace customized, which we were happy to do. Being able to make slight adjustments like lengthening and shortening necklaces or replacing a clasp to suit a customer’s taste, often translates into some of our most rewarding customer service experiences. I think this is because it often gives us the opportunity to follow-up with our customers one-on-one outside of trunk shows or other busy events, which always seems to add a real personal element to the process.
In this case, Patty and Ro’s husband Bob were in touch via email throughout the customizing process from the time they left our Huntington show to the time they received Ro’s finished necklace. Not only were we able to adjust Ro’s necklace in time for the holidays, but Patty, of course, took the liberty of beautifully packaging and gift wrapping it, so it was already wrapped, bowed and ready to go for Bob to give to his lovely wife for the holiday.
Our relationships with our customers rarely end at the point of sale. Maybe it’s because we’re a family company, maybe it’s just because Patty and I are both friendly extroverted types, but whatever the reason, we do seem to make friends with our customers quite often. It’s like a little extended Tobin family. And I love that about us. We may just be in the business of selling jewelry, but I must say with the utmost sincerity that meeting people like Ro and Bob, and getting to see first hand how just a little bit more work on our part can go such a long way to making them super happy in the end…it truly is the most gratifying part of our job.
Last week, for the very first time, Patty Tobin was hosted by Bloomingdale’s personal shopping department, At Your Service, for the designer’s very own private Trunk Show at the store’s famous 59th Street flagship location in New York City!
Being invited to showcase our jewelry with the Personal Shopping department was a huge coo for us — and we don’t mind saying so! Patty and I were both thrilled to have the opportunity to not only meet the wonderful team of personal shoppers at Bloomingdale’s and introduce them to our line, but also to garner the attention of our their clients during our four day trunk show.
The women of At Your Service were lovely hosts. They were not only welcoming, but they were willing to make time to get to know us and to learn more about the line (despite their super jam-packed schedules). We’re extremely happy to report that they all loved, loved, loved the line. And, perhaps even more exciting, they LOVED our price points!
It was so exciting to interact with these women, all of whom are professional expert level shoppers. They are the ones that engage with Bloomingdale’s VIP clientele and in so doing, they are, perhaps more than anyone else, tapped into their customers’ taste, style, and spending preferences. And to receive so much enthusiastic feedback from each of them individually was incredibly encouraging and a real compliment.
Coming up next: Personal Shoppers’ Favorite Patty Tobin pieces and more news on our next AYS Trunk Show Event in December! Stay tuned…
Yes, you’re seeing it right:
The newest fan and the youngest wearer of Patty Tobin jewelry!!
Twenty-two month old “V” (shown above) is sporting our Blue Topaz chain from Patty’s gemstone station chains collection. A natural when it comes to fashion, according to her mom and grandmother, V is the third generation Patty Tobin fan in her family — and you can tell! She wears this piece as well as anyone we’ve seen yet! Both long-time customers of Patty Tobin, mom and grandma both agree, it’s never too early to start the next generation on her collection.
V is modeling the Blue Topaz 18k vermeil chain from Patty’s gemstone station chains. At 40” these chains can be worn long or can be doubled to wear in necklines. Available in many gemstones, including Carnelian, black Onyx, Smoky Topaz, and Amethyst ($295.00).
On March 14th Patty Tobin and I kicked off our first series of trunk shows at Bloomingdale’s! I’m gonna tell you all about it, but first I just want to say one thing to summarize how it went: WOHOOO!!! Patty and I couldn’t have been happier with our first two weeks of shows!
Simply put, the jewelry was a smash hit! The colors pulled people right in, and the prices — as usual for Patty Tobin — were so reasonable people couln’t believe it! It wasn’t just the customers responding to the jewelry either; everyone — from the sales associates on the selling floor to the personal shoppers upstairs to the various makeup artists running back and forth — was loving the collection!
In all honesty, we would have been more than happy with the opportunity to showcase our jewelry at any Bloomingdale’s store, but I have to say, there really was something very special about debuting at the 59th Street flagship store in Manhattan. It may just be my long-time love affair with that particular department store — or maybe it’s because it’s such an amazingly iconic place — but whatever the reason, I have to tell you: Each morning when the loud speakers around the store would sound off at 10AM sharp with a loud siren blast that let everyone know the doors were officially open for business, and Frank Sinatra’s voice came ringing out to “New York, New York,” I felt a truly thrilling sensation.
It wasn’t just the excitement, or the nerves for that matter, but an overwhelming sense of pride that bubbled up inside me, filling me with utter confidence. Pride for my amazing aunt, who has worked so hard to get this far. Pride in her amazing jewelry designs and all the wonderful people who have been such dedicated supporters of Patty Tobin; people who know and love the jewelry, appreciate its value, and who recognize Patty’s incredible talent. Pride that we are still one of the few jewelry companies that actually manufactures our products not just in the U.S., but right here in our home state of New York. And just an overall sense of satisfaction for how hard we’ve worked and how far we’ve come since openning our first Patty Tobin Fine Fashion Jewelry boutique in 2009.
With six days of shows at 59th Street and two in Short Hills, NJ, we got to meet so many wonderful people. Patty and I were both loving the opportunity to interact with so many new customers, fellow designers and entrepreneurs, as well as Bloomingdale’s amazing staff. The energy on the selling floor of such a large retailer as Bloomingdale’s is really quite invigorating. Despite being on our feet for 14 hours a day for the better part of those two weeks, as soon as we stepped on the floor, I could see we were both energized — “rearing and ready to go,” as they say!
Patty really outdid herself with the jewelry for these shows. The pieces she designed for Bloomingdale’s events included several of my all-time favorite Patty Tobin styles, plus a whole bunch of brand new pieces that were so new, in fact, even I didn’t get a chance to see them all until we were setting up on the first day!
The colors were just magnificent! Sparkling blues, rich purples and bright bursts of orange that were literally stopping people in their tracks. We had plenty of pearls, as always, but we had an especially fabulous collection of stunning “gemmy-gem gems,” as Patty would call them.
More exciting news and updates, plus plenty more photos from our first Trunk Shows in New York City and Short Hills are coming soon, so stay tuned for more at PattyTobin.com!

Platinum Style released it’s “Winter Fire” issue this month with a red hot feature on the New York-based R&B group, Allure.
Patty Tobin was thrilled to drape these gorgeous and extremely talented young women for Platinum Style’s winter fashion special. Akissa Mendez (right) and Lalisha “LaLa” McLean-Sanders (left) both rocked Patty Tobin jewels for the photoshoot. It was so much fun to see each lady immediately gravitate to pieces that so clearly reflected what each woman describes as her personal style.
When asked to describe her own individual style, LaLa, told Platinum Style that she is the “versatile” one. And we weren’t surprised at all! Of all the Patty Tobin jewelry out to choose from, LaLa decided to rock our new Hematite & Vermeil bracelets ($195 each).
Call it a coincidence, but these are the same bracelets we are always highlighting for their versatility. You can wear them as bracelets, or fasten two together to wear as a short necklace, or three together for a longer rope look, and that’s just what LaLa did! Check out the beautiful shot of LaLa sporting two bracelets together as a choker-style necklace with two more stacked on her wrist as bracelets.
Akissa, on the other hand, describes herself as the “edgier” one, which is easy to believe. Not only did she pick one of our big “mega” torsades in gorgeous faceted aqua quartz briolettes, but she also chose to rock our Hematite Rope necklace as a belt!! We LOVE when we get a chance to work with women who totally appreciate all of the different ways you can play around with Patty Tobin jewelry to reflect your own personal style.
Allure has produced three studio albums and are currently putting the “finishing touches” on their fourth album. As a family business, Patty and I totally admire these hard-working, tight-knit, female artists who describe themselves more as sisters than just members of the same musical group.
They know what it’s like to create your art independently; without the big checkbook and resources that come with a big label. (Oh, how well we know that story…) And just like these determined, tenacious women, we too agree that when it comes to your name, your brand, your business, creative control is worth everything.
So sing it sisters! We’re with you!
If you haven’t checked out Allure yet, you can visit their Facebook page and read the full story at PlatinumStyleMag.com. Don’t forget to check out the great fashion spread in this month’s issue while you’re there!
Special thanks to Benjamin Soto Ortiz (Photographer) and Bree C. at Platinum Style.
Open Closet Magazine, a new fashion publication based in NYC, is on a mission to promote new up-and-coming designers like Patty Tobin in a way that inspires its audience. The only magazine of its kind, Open Closet Magazine, hopes to be the leader when it comes to spotting and promoting new talent among designers from every end of the spectrum.
The magazine launched its first issue for September 2012 with Mob Wives star, Ramona Rizzo, gracing the cover and wearing a Patty Tobin bali sterling and freshwater pearl bracelet ($225, available online) and a pair of our pink baroque freshwater pearl earrings ($95, available through special order, call 212.414.0174).
Working with co-founder and stylist, Avery Johnson, was such a treat! He loves Patty Tobin jewelry and hand-picked each piece that was featured in the magazine, including the pink and peacock keshi pearl torsade as seen on Ramona in the photo to your right ($895, available by phone: 212.414.0174).
The whole team at Open Closet is just a great group of talented people, including Ramona who is such a doll. She loved the jewelry and was so excited to get her new Patty Tobin necklace at the launch party.
Not only did we get the opportunity to work with Avery and his team to drape Ramona for the shoot, but they were so taken with Patty’s jewelry, they wanted to feature her as one of the main designers for their first issue! Scroll down to see the amazing two-page spread on Patty Tobin and her fine fashion jewelry collection. Plus, visit our Facebook page for some excellent party pics of Patty and her gang at the launch event here in New York.
We have no doubt that the magazine will be a smashing success and we can’t wait to work with them again down the road! If you haven’t heard of of Open Closet Magazine before, you should definitely check them out online or follow them on Facebook.
We’ve been thrilled to work with Open Closet Magazine and Platinum Style, both new publications dedicated to the New York-centric fashionista. The stylists from both magazines have been loving our new Fall 2012 arrivals and will be shooting them for their upcoming issues! Here’s a little sneak peak of what’s new pre-photo shoot. We’ll have more news, updates and behind the scenes photos following our shoot at the store this weekend. Patty herself will be featured as an up-and-coming designer and life-long entrepreneur in the second issue of Platinum Style, due out this fall. We can’t wait! Stay tuned for more excitement in the coming months!
Here are some of the styles the magazines have been “oohing and ahhing” over …
Open Closet Magazinepulled this pink and peacock shade keshi pearl torsade for it’s first ever cover shoot with Mob Wives Star Ramona Rizzo. It’s not hard to see why they wanted it — it’s a signature Patty! And it’s just a stunning piece!
