Patty Tobin Jewels Hit The Upper East Side!!

Patty Tobin trunk show at Item Boutique in NYC

Clockwise from top left: Patty Tobin's collection is filled with all the must-have colors of the season; our lovely model, Chandler Allen, wearing Patty's smokey topaz gemstone lariat necklace ($895); local NYC beauty, Joy Pleasant, modeling our stunning smokey topaz necklace (see bottom right) with designer Patty Tobin; our new onyx and white freshwater pearl lariat -- stunning!! ($895); blue mother of pearl torsade by Patty Tobin ($495); 20MM smokey topaz necklace ($695) and aqua quartz nesting necklaces ($395 & $495).

Patty Tobin brought a beautiful showing of her colorful gemstone and pearl jewelry to ITEM Boutique yesterday for our first in-store trunk show on the Upper East Side. Thanks to our wonderful host and owner of ITEM, Wendy, we had two beautiful models there to strut their stuff in Patty’s gorgeous jewels while guests had a chance to enjoy some wine and shop the collection. It was a great night filled with fun, fashion and fabulous baubles. We can’t wait to partner with Wendy again. Stay tuned for more news and updates about the boutique and our line. Plus, checkout some great pictures from the night on our Facebook page!

New colorful gemstone chains by Patty Tobin

Patty's new gemstone chains were on display at yesterdays showcase. The perfect piece to throw on with any outfit. They come in all different colors, including the vibrant blue topaz, classic smokey topaz, and this firey carnelian (show above from left to right). We also carry this style in onyx and amethyst. And for $295, they're a steal!

Our new gemstone chains (shown above) have been a huge hit since we got them in two weeks ago. They were a big part of yesterday’s showcase with so many different colors and ways to wear. This style is really such an easy piece to throw on and go. Whether you wear it long (about 40″), or doubled-up to fit better with some necklines, or layered with a second chain (my personal favorite) for a fuller statement look. This necklace suits any lady from 18-80, it can easily go day or night and makes for a lovely gift to someone special or even as a little treat to yourself. And at $295 each, they won’t break the bank. No buyers remorse here, we can promise you. These styles will be available for sale on our online store in the coming weeks, but you can always call or stop by our Chelsea boutique on W.17th Street today to get yours before they’re gone!

Brides say Yes! to Patty Tobin Bridal Jewelry

February 22, 2012  |  Get The Look

It’s that time of year! With March rapidly approaching, wedding season will soon be in full gear. While Patty Tobin does bridal jewelry all year round, spring and summer is the time we find ourselves in high demand. Whether it’s a necklace, a pair of earrings or a bracelet for the bride, something for mothers, or matching sets for your bridesmaids, we are always happy to work one-on-one with brides to find the perfect accessories for the big day.

Bride (Ashley) wearing Patty Tobin pearl neclace and earrings at her weddingLast week, Ashley walked down the aisle wearing one of our favorite bridal pieces: a delicate three-strand freshwater pearl and 14K gold necklace that sits lightly right along the base of the neck above the clavicle with a simple single pearl drop earring to match. Ashley came in unsure of exactly what she wanted – maybe a bracelet, maybe a necklace or maybe just a pair of earrings – but looking for something that was classic, elegant, and not too “blingy.”

Like many brides, she was having a hard time finding something that was “just right” and within her budget. As you start to look, many brides will likely find that a lot of “bridal jewelry” is costume with lots of rhinestone action and sparkle. While that look totally can work for some, there are those looking for something a little more special that they can hold on to, wear again and one day pass onto their children.  That is why so many come to us to design something especially for them with real pearls, real gemstones and precious metals. Every bride is different, which is why we enjoy working with each one individually.

Mother of the bride wearing Patty Tobin pearlsWhile in the store with us, Ashley not only found the perfect jewelry for herself, but she found the perfect piece for her mother to wear: a lovely multicolor shell pearl necklace with pearls in silver, bronze, black and cream shades that added the perfect accent of color with her gold wrap and black dress. (Moms always love to find something special for their outfit when they come in looking with their daughters and we couldn’t be happier to oblige.)

Bridesmaids’ jewelry is another fun element that we love to design. Working with your wedding colors is such a great opportunity to incorporate any number of semiprecious gemstones or colored crystals. We may be a little bias here, but as far as we’re concerned there’s nothing that makes a better gift for your bridesmaids than a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Beautiful bridesmaids

Take for instance one of our recent brides, Elizabeth. She had five close friends in her bridal party, all of whom had been extremely helpful and involved in all the various planning stages of her wedding, and she really wanted to give them something very special as a thank you that they could wear again. Together with Liz, we designed a beautiful matching necklace and earring set using a deep red faceted garnet and 18K vermeil chain that complimented their cabernet shade chiffon dresses. The girls looked stunning and we’re so thrilled with their gifts they wrote to us to tell us so.

If you are a bride to be and are interested in designing something custom for your wedding day, you can call 212.414.0174 to set up a private appointment with the designer in our NYC store, or just stop in and talk to a member of our staff who will be more than happy to help.

PLUS Model Magazine Sparks Controversy with Gutsy Photoshoot

PLUS Model Magazine features Patty Tobin jewelry

PLUS Model Magazine features jewelry by Patty Tobin in it's January 2012 issue that has sparked a media frenzy with it's "Plus Size Bodies: What’s Wrong With Them Anyways?" feature story.

PLUS Model Magazine recent feature, “Plus Size Bodies: What’s Wrong With Them Anyways?” has sparked a major media frenzy over the past week that’s reached around the globe and led to feature stories on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, Entertainment Tonight, Fox News, and dozens of other newspaper and blog websites.

Our involvement with this issue, of course, started when Patty Tobin jewelry was selected for the January 2012 issue that features plus-size model Katya Zharkova in a gutsy photoshoot that has since been characterized as “explosive” and “thought provoking.”

The question the issue poses is simple: What’s so wrong with plus sized bodies anyways? The answer: nothing.

Entertainment Tonight reports on Plus size bodies controversy

Click image to Watch Entertainment Tonight's video segment

Then why has this story stirred up so much controversy you ask? Because, in addition to the fact that women today are bombarded with countless weight-loss advertisements every single day by a multi-billion dollar industry that preys on the fear of being fat, according to editor-in-chief of PPM Madeline Figueroa-Jones who wrote the hot topic article, the fashion industry has continued to support the dwindling figure of your average American model. Despite the fact that 50% of women in this country today wear a size 14 or larger, the vast majority of models today continue to shrink down to anorexic proportions.

Plus Size Bodies: What's Wrong With Them Anyways?

Click image to read the whole article

Frankly, our position on the issue is this: These women are beautiful! They’re healthy, they’re curvy and it’s about time we start addressing the fact that the “full figured” woman who takes care of herself and styles herself is as lovely as her smaller counterpart. Good things not only come in small packages but in larger packages too!  The idea that mainstream perception of “full figure” is synonymous with “fat” or “unhealthy” is ludacris!

Patty Tobin jewelry always makes a statement but has never made a better one than it has here in Katya’s photo shoot.  We often style this pearl lariat down the bare back of a black tie ensemble, but Jacci Jaye takes it to a whole other level by draping it down Katya’s bare back with nothing else but her Christian Louboutin’s.

We are so excited for the follow up story PPM’s February issue will feature on the story behind the shoot. The teasers are out and Patty Tobin jewelry is featured!

For now though, check out the latest installment of “Get The Look” featured by PPM. It highlights the “Luxe Jewels” Katya Zharkova wore for the photoshoot, including our Patty Tobin jewels. “[Donning] nothing but goegeous baubles, bangles and beads” by Patty Tobin and Atelier Minyon, stylist Jacci Jaye shares with readers where they can get the same look. Check out the story online here and look for it in the next issue of PPM out February 1st 2012!

Patty Tobin has always believed that accessories rule when it comes to fashion.   A woman’s outfit may be her canvas, but her true style – that which is most unique to her personality – is found in her accessories: her jewelry, her shoes, her bag, her belt, her scarf. It’s always been our motto that jewelry is the “ultimate fashion accessory” and it seems so appropriate to use it here – where a woman’s size has no baring on her beauty or style whatsoever. Whatever your size, Patty Tobin jewelry is a one-size fits all luxury for every woman.

Loving this bride’s “something blue” from Patty Tobin

January 5, 2012  |  Get The Look, Who's Wearing Patty Tobin

We love working with brides at Patty Tobin and every once in a while we get extra special lucky to work with one who wants to go a little outside the box. A few months ago, then bride to be, Veronica Pecnik, came into our store looking for her wedding jewelry. While most brides stick to the traditional white pearl variety of jewelry, Veronica was looking for something different. She saw our turquoise shard necklace and fell in love. It was to be her “something blue” and let’s just say, after seeing the wedding photos, the girl blue it out of the water on this one. She looked absolutely fabulous in her gorgeous v-neck white satin gown with this one of a kind statement piece. She couldn’t have been happier with how the necklace looked with her dress and we couldn’t have been happier to help make her wedding day that much more special.

As Seen On CBS: Yurga Lago

We are so excited about our collaboration with renown European designer Yurga Lago!!!  Her pieces have been a sensation here in New York and can be found exclusively at Patty Tobin.  One of our very favorite friends, Dr. Jennifer Hartstein, who appears on the CBS Early Show, chose the Yurga brooch you see her wearing here in sterling silver.  Yurga loves designing many of her pieces using birds as the theme.  Yurga will be hosting Patty Tobin this October in Vilnius which will mark our European debut.  Foreign relations have never been better!

Esthetique C’est Magnifique

We’re so excited to be working with ESTHÉTIQUE, a brand new magazine with novel and original ideas on design and fashion. ESTHÉTIQUE is such a refreshing change from the magazines we’re used to seeing on the shelves. The fashion editorials are fresh and progressive, the photography is sensual and beautiful, and — if we do say so ourselves — their stylists have an uncanny eye for selecting designer pieces and putting together outstanding looks. We have a special sneak-peak into their second issue to share with our readers, so you can see what were talking about. Check out how they fashioned our Baroque Coin Pearl Torsade in peacock and our Shell Pearl necklace in teal for this cover shoot.

And it’s even a place where people outside of this creative milieu can visit and appreciate the beauty and edginess of New York’s fashion and design worlds. The magazine is distributed primarily in and around the New York and Japan fashion industries, but also has a growing presence world-wide.

Obsession of the Week (BeautySweetSpot.com)

Magnetic appeal of the nesting necklace.

While in last week, Jeannine Morris, prominent beauty blogger noted the innovative concept of  Patty Tobin’s nesting necklaces with magnetic clasp. The versatility of this design allows the wearer multiple styling options.  The classic look is wearing the pair together. Other options include wearing each piece separately and; using the elegant magnetic clasp to rope the two pieces together  for a long, chic look.
