Gifts Husbands Have Come To Believe In

Happy customers like Ro (pictured below) and her husband Bob are what make our Holiday Season so delightful at Patty Tobin. We met this lovely couple during one of our Bloomingdale’s Trunk Shows in Huntington, Long Island this past December. Ro instantly fell in love with our Abalone Torsade and her husband Bob was right behind her to say, “Let’s get it for you!”

As with many of our customers, Ro needed the length of the necklace customized, which we were happy to do. Being able to make slight adjustments like lengthening and shortening necklaces or replacing a clasp to suit a customer’s taste, often translates into some of our  most rewarding customer service experiences. I think this is because it often gives us the opportunity to follow-up with our customers one-on-one outside of trunk shows or other busy events, which always seems to add a real personal element to the process.

In this case, Patty and Ro’s husband Bob were in touch via email throughout the customizing process from the time they left our Huntington show to the time they received Ro’s finished necklace. Not only were we able to adjust Ro’s necklace in time for the holidays, but Patty, of course, took the liberty of beautifully packaging and gift wrapping it, so it was already wrapped, bowed and ready to go for Bob to give to his lovely wife for the holiday.

Our relationships with our customers rarely end at the point of sale. Maybe it’s because we’re a family company, maybe it’s just because Patty and I are both friendly extroverted types, but whatever the reason, we do seem to make friends with our customers quite often. It’s like a little extended Tobin family. And I love that about us. We may just be in the business of selling jewelry, but I must say with the utmost sincerity that meeting people like Ro and Bob, and getting to see first hand how just a little bit more work on our part can go such a long way to making them super happy in the end…it truly is the most gratifying part of our job.

Talk About Making A Statement! Patty Tobin Dazzles Them At Bloomingdale’s

On March 14th Patty Tobin and I kicked off our first series of trunk shows at Bloomingdale’s! I’m gonna tell you all about it, but first I just want to say one thing to summarize how it went: WOHOOO!!! Patty and I couldn’t have been happier with our first two weeks of shows!

Patty Tobin Jewelry Bloomingdales Trunk Show

You would not believe how thrifty we were when it came to fitting all of our jewelry in such a tight space, but we got creative and totally made it work! From left to right: Me, Teal Rahmati, Patty Tobin, and Julie Chan.

Our colorful collection of Fire Agate gemstone ropes and Freshwater Pearl Lariats were drawing shoppers in like moths to a flame! It was so much fun to see!

Simply put, the jewelry was a smash hit! The colors pulled people right in, and the prices — as usual for Patty Tobin — were so reasonable people couln’t believe it!  It wasn’t just the customers responding to the jewelry either; everyone — from the sales associates on the selling floor to the personal shoppers upstairs to the various makeup artists running back and forth — was loving the collection!

Bloomingdale's 59th Street flagship store in New York City.

In all honesty, we would have been more than happy with the opportunity to showcase our jewelry at any Bloomingdale’s store, but I have to say, there really was something very special about debuting at the 59th Street flagship store in Manhattan. It may just be my long-time love affair with that particular department store — or maybe it’s because it’s such an amazingly iconic place — but whatever the reason, I have to tell you: Each morning when the loud speakers around the store would sound off at 10AM sharp with a loud siren blast that let everyone know the doors were officially open for business, and Frank Sinatra’s voice came ringing out to “New York, New York,” I felt a truly thrilling sensation.

Patty loves to be on the floor interacting with customers. She's always been the face of her company, there to meet and greet, and talk to everyone.

It wasn’t just the excitement, or the nerves for that matter, but an overwhelming sense of pride that bubbled up inside me, filling me with utter confidence. Pride for my amazing aunt, who has worked so hard to get this far. Pride in her amazing jewelry designs and all the wonderful people who have been such dedicated supporters of Patty Tobin; people who know and love the jewelry, appreciate its value, and who recognize Patty’s incredible talent.  Pride that we are still one of the few jewelry companies that actually manufactures our products not just in the U.S., but right here in our home state of New York. And just an overall sense of satisfaction for how hard we’ve worked and how far we’ve come since openning our first Patty Tobin Fine Fashion Jewelry boutique in 2009.

With six days of shows at 59th Street and two in Short Hills, NJ, we got to meet so many wonderful people. Patty and I were both loving the opportunity to interact with so many new customers, fellow designers and entrepreneurs, as well as Bloomingdale’s amazing staff. The energy on the selling floor of such a large retailer as Bloomingdale’s is really quite invigorating. Despite being on our feet for 14 hours a day for the better part of those two weeks, as soon as we stepped on the floor, I could see we were both energized — “rearing and ready to go,” as they say!

Patty really outdid herself with the jewelry for these shows. The pieces she designed for Bloomingdale’s events included several of my all-time favorite Patty Tobin styles, plus a whole bunch of brand new pieces that were so new, in fact, even I didn’t get a chance to see them all until we were setting up on the first day!

The colors were just magnificent! Sparkling blues, rich purples and bright bursts of orange that were literally stopping people in their tracks. We had plenty of pearls, as always, but we had an especially fabulous collection of stunning “gemmy-gem gems,” as Patty would call them.

More exciting news and updates, plus plenty more photos from our first Trunk Shows in New York City and Short Hills are coming soon, so stay tuned for more at PattyTobin.com!

Platinum Style Magazine Does Retro Hollywood Glam

Platinum Style Magazine Cover“Retro Hollywood Glam” is the theme of the premier issue of Platinum Style Magazine, a new New-York-centric publication that focuses on the fashion and lifestyle of the chic New York urbanite. We were so excited to get a chance to work with the new online and print publication that launched in June; not only because we had an opportunity to participate in their first ever issue, but because they featured an interview with our favorite local actress-slash-restaurant-entrepreneur, Adriana Moretti.

Adriana is just an all-around fabulous woman — beautiful inside and out. If you have ever been to her and her hubbies’ new restaurant, Incognito, in Chelsea, you’ve no doubt witnessed her wonderfully bubbly presence and wild sense of humor that we at Patty Tobin love so much. We had so much fun draping her for this shoot and hope that both she and Incognito continue to get the recognition they so deserve.

In addition to profiling several fabulous New York women, the magazine is full of special features on New York’s art and culture scene, night life happenings, trendy fashion boutiques (like ours — wink, wink), beauty products and just the “overall fashionable style of the City.” To catch up on the latest issue and see all the fabulous photos from Adriana’s shoot, click here.

Patty Tobin for Yurga

December 13, 2011  |  Friends of Patty Tobin, News & Events

Yurga Lago (left) and Patty Tobin (right) at Klaipeda trunk show.

Jewelry designer, Yurga Lago, recently hosted New York jewelry designer, Patty Tobin, at her boutique in Klaipeda, reports a local magazine there. Guests of the evening previewed Patty Tobin for Yurga – a new collection of luxury necklaces, bracelets and earrings, all made from semiprecious gemstones and precious metals. Everyone in attendance agreed the only difficult part of the evening was choosing which one of the designer’s stunning pieces was their favorite – a very positive overall reflection of the night, we think.

This event and a second trunk show in Vilnius held the same week marked the first of many joint ventures between the two designers. With help from Tobin, Yurga’s jewelry made its debut on the CBS Early Show when Dr. Jennifer Hartstein sported one her new pins on a segment back in November.

Yurga and Tobin are also gearing up for the opening of a joint showroom in New York City around April 2012 with a debut party for Yurga hosted by Tobin at her Chelsea boutique later that fall. The two believe their collaboration is just the ticket for expanding each designer’s global audience, their clientele base as well as their brand recognition on an international level.

It is all very exciting and we can’t wait to build more on the success of December’s shows in Lithuania, so stay tuned for more over the coming year!

Obsession of the Week (BeautySweetSpot.com)

Magnetic appeal of the nesting necklace.

While in last week, Jeannine Morris, prominent beauty blogger noted the innovative concept of  Patty Tobin’s nesting necklaces with magnetic clasp. The versatility of this design allows the wearer multiple styling options.  The classic look is wearing the pair together. Other options include wearing each piece separately and; using the elegant magnetic clasp to rope the two pieces together  for a long, chic look.
